In English Martyrs, we study geography to explain the Earth, understand climate, physical features and the human effect on the planet.
In Key Stage 1, we teach children about structures built by mankind, learn about weather patterns and compare contrasting places, Britain with China.
In years 3 and 4, teachers build on this knowledge, looking at maps and atlases, learning about seas and rivers. They compare the UK with Italy then South America, and study early settlements before moving onto climate and natural disasters.
In years 5 and 6, the children study land use, the water cycle, changes in the local area, climate change and the affect humans have on the environment.

In English Martyrs, we study history to learn about the past. We study achievements from people and investigate changes from a range of time and places.
In Key Stage 1, we teach children about space, exploring people who walked on the moon, other heroes and heroines; the Stone Age; castles and the great fire of London.
In years 3 and 4, teachers build on this; studying historical characters, Stone Age to the Iron Age, Ancient Rome, The Roman Empire and Anglo Saxons.
In years 5 and 6, the children learn about freedom, the Egyptians, Mayans and Ancient Greeks, before moving onto World War 2 and changes in London including the River Thames.
The children have created some wonderful displays around the school. Here is a gallery of a few of those displays. Click on the thumbnails for a larger view and description.
